Dead to sin.

No one likes to talk about sin, for it is the big elephant in the room that no one wants to address. We can talk about the love of God, his faithfulness and grace but not the sinful lifestyle. If someone manage to bring it up, our excuses is right at the door waiting for the opportunity to justify ourselves. Phrases like, it’s a work in progress, no one is perfect, and I am doing my best, but not realizing it’s been 10 years since you’ve been saved and nothing has changed. Yes family, it’s been that long and you’re still having sex without being married, still gossiping, lying, and still can’t forgive those who hurt you.

You’re not here alone if that’s what your thinking for I used to believe I was working on myself, that I was in my “work in progress” stage but I was blind to the control sin had over me. As a result I was not dead to sin and alive in Christ but instead I was using the freedom Christ gave me to continue to sin. If this is a revelation for you, then the next step is to repent, reflect and rejoice. Repent is to change direction from your habitual sin, then reflect on what steps you need for prevention and to rejoice is to know that God is with you every step of the way.

To be dead to sin is to not use your freedom from sin to continue to sin. The other side of that coin is some believers see sin as the way of life, believing that they can’t stop sinning. Therefore, taking steps to not commit the same sin over and over again is to them working for salvation when it’s a gift. You see how the enemy has twist the meaning of salvation that if you are actually living a life pleasing to God, it means you’re working to be saved. If you believed that, then let’s re-group. You can’t earn or work for salvation but your works, deeds, and action is the expression of your faith.

“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:12 NKJV‬‬

Sin should feel uncomfortable, out of place, and out of character. Remember, you are dead to sin and alive in Christ. From my experience so far, being dead to sin is like a journey that feels like a marathon, some trip will last longer and some will be harder than others but it doesn’t mean you can’t win the race. We all have a race to run whether we are ready for it or train for it. You have a choice to decide if you will win the race or lose it and all of your decision affects the routes of the race. When you have been born again, you need training which is sound doctrine, building endurance is pushing through the trials, which can include short comings and adapting new habit only comes from renewing your mind with the word that will equip to do good works. Stay bless and let’s run this race together.

“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬
