In the Gospel of Mark, the Kingdom of God is compared to a mustard seed that is small but when it sown into the ground it becomes larger than all the garden plant. The plant branches are so large, that it creates a nest for the birds outside. This parable makes me think of how sometime we don’t value the small things in life until it surprises us. I see it in the same way as our faith, when we try to bypass the early stage. Now please understand, the goal is for you to grow in faith but let us not underestimate the power of the little faith we have in the beginning.
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Your faith only increase if you keep walking with God.
And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”
The Faith of a Canaanite Woman :Matthew 15
21And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. 22And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.” 23But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.”24He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” 26And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”28Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.e
THE END GOAL
These two scripture describe how we start and how we can finish in our walk with Christ. For example, Peter started with little faith when he started to sink while walking on water with Jesus as he became afraid of the wind. However, he became a well known apostle for the church, teaching believers how to live a life pleasing to God. Peter was able to grow in faith because he continue to walk with Jesus even after his death, Peter continued to persevere. You and I can do the same, we have never seen Jesus physically but we believe in him and through our relationship with him we will continue to grow in faith.
